Midgard, a legacy of adjustable lighting
Midgard has been shaping the lighting industry since 1919. Founded by Curt Fischer, the company pioneered adjustable lamps, a groundbreaking innovation at the time. Fischer’s designs focused on function and adaptability, allowing users to direct light exactly where needed. This approach quickly gained recognition. Bauhaus founder and architect Walter Gropius embraced Midgard lamps, integrating them into the movement’s workshops. Over a century later, Midgard remains committed to craftsmanship. Every lamp is still made in Germany, preserving its rich heritage while staying true to timeless design.

Bauhaus Lighting: Form Meets Function
Midgard’s lamps reflect the Bauhaus philosophy to the letter—simple, functional, and beautifully crafted.
Midgard is a German lighting brand founded by Curt Fischer, the inventor of the adjustable lamp. Since the early 20th century, Midgard has been known for its functional, durable, and timeless designs, originally created for industrial use.
The name comes from Norse mythology, where "Midgard" represents the human world, encircled by the great serpent Jörmungandr—symbolizing strength and continuity, just like Midgard’s lighting philosophy.
The brand’s most famous model, the TYP 113, was one of the first adjustable desk lamps produced in series. It quickly became a favorite among Bauhaus architects, artists, and designers. Its clean lines and precise engineering fit perfectly into modernist interiors. Today, Midgard continues to create lighting that blends practicality with timeless aesthetics. Whether for workspaces or homes, each lamp offers both flexibility and elegance.
