K830

Midgard is a German lighting brand with a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. It was founded by Curt Fischer, often credited as the inventor of the adjustable lamp. Midgard lamps, like the K830, were originally designed for industrial and workshop use, offering flexibility and precise lighting. Their design philosophy focused on functional, durable, and aesthetically timeless lighting solutions.

The name "Midgard" is inspired by Norse mythology, where "Midgard" (or "Midgaard" in Dutch) refers to the world of humans, encircled by the great serpent Jörmungandr. This connection explains the snake in the brand’s logo—it symbolizes the encompassing and protective nature of Midgard’s lighting, just as the mythical serpent surrounds the human realm. It’s a nod to both strength and timelessness, qualities reflected in Midgard’s designs.

Why Choose the Midgard K830?

If you're looking at a combination of a wall lamp and a pendant that has an extraordinary reach. The arms are adjustable and the pendant can move up and down. the Midgard K830 is a perfect choice. Originally designed for workspaces, this lamp has a unique pivoting shade that allows you to direct light precisely where you need it.

About Midgard

About Midgard

From innovation to icon

Midgard’s story began in 1919 when Curt Fischer took over Industriewerk Auma in Thuringia. Frustrated by poor lighting conditions in workshops, he developed the first adjustable lamp, a concept that would redefine task lighting. His innovative designs allowed precise control of light direction, improving both efficiency and comfort.

By the 1920s, Midgard lamps had gained widespread recognition, especially within the Bauhaus movement. Walter Gropius, the founder of Bauhaus, embraced Fischer’s vision, integrating Midgard lamps into the school’s studios and workshops. The clean, functional aesthetic of these lamps resonated with Bauhaus principles, making them a natural fit for the modernist movement. Soon, legendary architects such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer incorporated Midgard lighting into their designs. Fischer’s adjustable lamps complemented the sleek, geometric interiors of Bauhaus buildings, including the Dessau campus, where they illuminated the creative work of students and masters alike.
